Mayennaise
We have just taken delivery of our new modem for Broadband and free UK phone calls, but from a different company to the one Cheryl is using. We are also a bit (read very) confused !!!. 1. Our computer is situated at one end of the house and the room has a 1 phone socket and 1 electrical socket (at opposite ends of the room). 2. We have another phone socket in another room and a third in the hallway.3. The Phone (we only have one) is currently plugged into the socket in the hall and the computer (modem) connected to the phone socket in its room by an extention cable (RJ11?) as the cable (yellow one marked Ethernet) that the company gave us is too short!! 4. We have managed to connect the right leads to enable us to receive the broadband connection but what about our free UK calls?. 5.Does the phone HAVE to be plugged into the modem to enable us to get these and should we be using the Ethernet cable? 6. Another thought also occured - would it be better if we went Wireless and did away with all the cable and if we did what would we have to do?Thank you in advance from a couple of technophobes! cooperlola
A brief response to item 6 because we've tried it - be careful if you have 2' thick walls between the modem and the remote computer - the wireless system has trouble coping at times! Mayennaise
Me again!!Sorry - for question 3 ignore the bit about the Ehternet cable as we Have that one connected obviously!!
BJSLIV
I assume that you are not "Degroupee" because if you were the only way you could make calls would be through a phone plugged into the modem. As you are not any calls from your old phone will be charged either by your new supplier, if you have transferred your phone service to them, or whatever other call supplier you use. Mayennaise
Not sure if we are Degroupage (sp) or not - how do we find out?and we were already with the company regarding the phone calls (Teleconnect). We still have to pay FT for the line rental though.
BJSLIV
If you are paying rent to FT you are not degroupage totale .If you were you wouldn't be able to make calls other than through the modem.
