What functionality does a Sky+ box have without a subscription?

It is an ordinary bog standard satellite receiver box. The recording hard drive needs activation by the subscription. £120 a year, not good value in my opinion since there is little worth recording these days on the telly and the Sky + boxes are expensive. For the odd thingy that is worth recording then there's always a bog standard video recorder as stand by.

I have a euro satellite reciever (like sky+) for sale if anyones interested, twin tuner 80gb hard drive etc, will need at least a twin lnb

These work quite well with pause and resume facility but as its a euro one no CH4 or 5 as yet.
