Dave
My neighbour asked me to take a look at her computer because it had a virus, AVG had detected a 'trojan' in winlogon.exe and so quarantined the file, when she rebooted the PC it does not reach the welcome screen but reboots in an endless cycle. I came home and have been seraching for a solution and thus is what I have found. I will go back tomorrow and see if I can follow the instructions form AVG to rectify the problem.http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/read.php?4,84794,84820#msg-84820best regardsDave
Dave
It worked....I booted into 'safe mode' and uninstalled AVG then rebooted, came back as normal into windows, reinstalled AVG and downloaded latest updates and everything is OK now..[:D]
Clair
Please note that this issue may happen on a very old Windows XP systemswithout any Service Packs. This issue doesn't appear on Windows XPService Pack 1 or Service Pack 2. Therefore we strongly recommend toupdate your Windows XP to Service Pack 2, not only to get your computersecure. cooperlola
Thanks but how do I know which service pack I have and how do I update it (computer div!)
Cat
To determine your service pack, right click on My Computer (either on the desktop, or in the Start Menu) and select Properties. If you are running Windows XP you should be running service pack 2.Next, go to the control panel and double-click on Automatic Updates, you can then select to either receive updates automatically (recomended) or if not you can use the link at the bottom right hand side of the dialog Windows update web site. Dave
The article also mentions that it may affect certain versions of winlogon.exe and as my neighbours OS is in French this may be the cause. Also be aware that when you update from microsoft they load a small verification script to determine whether your copy of XP is stolen/copied....I am not suggesting that anyone here would be in that position[Www]best regardsDave

The new version 7.5 is already available and people are already upgrading (most existing 7.1 users will be presented with a dialog notifying them. The current/new version 7.5 is available in both free and paid for versions !! http://free.grisoft.com/doc/21/lng/us/tpl/v5Ian
