Telephone question

We are going to have our telephone installed at last, (last time they could not do it because the hedge was too tall). They are coming on the 3rd of January, but the problem is, we do not have a telephone yet, 1) will there be any shops open on the 2nd for us to buy one (we are only going to be there for 3 days). 2) If not, does the engineer need a telephone to test the line? Thanks.

The short answer is Yes and Yes. You can buy a cheap one for twenty euros.

The engineer will have one to test the line, but he doesn't need yours. He'll have his own. But using yours will tell him your new purchase is functional (or otherwise.)[:D]
