Subject: Dustin

Wind, sleet. The branches sway,

With sun's warmth wasted on a stone,

Only a whiter absence to my mind,

I know,

To pick up even the quickening of wind

And beyond, the same sound of bees

Nor, indeed, the bit of paint itself can know of.

Blurring the terrain,

And M?e Chose's square of world, even as they And still my mind goes groping in the mud to bring My keyhole blows a gale Summer bees were saying Silence. Your way of being. Your way of seeing I bring down a bit of its light M?e and P?e Chose are walking away from the Swaying in unison beneath the snow, Columbuses or Gamas, ever pass, What I have in my hands, these flowers, these shadows, Looms in the air, deliberate and slow,

Brilliant.

I love the use of dissociated phrases to heighten the feeling of alienation, and yet at the same time, an appreciation of the oneness of nature and the world about us, reminding me somewhat of the early work of Gerard Manley Hopkins who, in 1892, sai....

Gerard was much more Manly than Mary.

Mary sang backing vocals on Bowie's "Sound and Vision" - I think her then hubby, Tony Visconti, the record producer, dragged her in.

Remember Linda Lewis?  SHE did the brilliant backing vocals on Bowie's "Panic in Detroit".

I have a kitchen table in my workshop that came from the seminary that GMH lived in for the last years of his life. I don't think I can claim that he ever knew it, as it has a Formica top... (He died in 1889 and Formica wasn't invented until 1912)

I did know a kid who thought he was Gerard Mainly Hopkins - dunno what was going on there. Only kid who ever bit me.
