missorange
I am moving to the Perigord Vert area of the dordogne at the end of the month and am hearing mixed things about the availability of Wireless Broadband. Can any one recommend an ISP that will be easy for me to get connected to as soon as I move in, as I am going to need internet access straight away. Thanks Miss O! Bob T
The broadband bit is what the suppliers will give you, it is down to the modem that you buy/rent for the wireless bit. You will need a telephone number of a house, your own or a neighbour to see if broadband is available there. None of the providers will get you set yp on the day you arrive, but as Orange is owned by France Telecom, they would be my first port of call. Tim
Yes, I agree with you Bob. If internet access is required asap you could try to open a Wanadoo/Orange account before you come over. I did it this way and when I moved over I was able to change the settings on my machine in a few minutes and had my dial-up connection going. Once that was working, it was not too much trouble to upgrade to broadband (ADSL) - once they had hooked up the equipment in our village, that is. Martin963
timco - sorry to go off topic - but is that the good ship Ross Revenge in your little pic?

Martin963
yes, personally I find the sat service very sterile. Where's Tom Anderson when he's needed? (actually I gather he hasn't been at all well).
Tim
Sorry everybody - still off topic - yes, the sat service does have it's moments though - I was listening for quite a while painting yesterday and they were certainly playing stuff that you don't hear elsewhere. I also quite like Pat Edison's show, but I'm probably biased as I know him quite well. Found an old recording on cassette when I moved over here of Tom opening the programmes from the Ross on their first full day - brought back some memories. Still fond of the poor old Mi Amigo though. Shows my age!
Martin963
... sorry still off topic - I've got a recording of that too somewhere, when many of us heaved a sigh of relief that someone could still play four non-chart tracks back to back with minimum (but charming) chat.Happy happy days in 1983, suddenly a long time ago... AnOther
A word of advice and to avoid disappointment:Not all areas revel in the benefit of fast ADSL so if the property you are moving to already has a telephone check the number out on Degrouptest to see what is actually going to be available. You cannot rely on what neighbours are getting. If it doesn't have a phone then cross your fingers and hope.http://www.degrouptest.com/My near neighbours are only 200 or 300m away but their line comes via a very different route which means that they only have 512kb whereas I get over 2mb.For the old f**ts [;-)] waxing nostalgically over Pirate Radio days I'm sure you'll know this site http://radiocaroline.servemp3.com/And who'll admit to remembering Loving Awareness !Hints.............http://www.pirateradiosales.co.uk/cdclips/clip58.mp3 http://www.pirateradiosales.co.uk/cdclips/clip59.mp3
