Ah thanks. That will be fine for us. We are opting for the a la carte offer so that we can cancel the service when we are away from France without any monthly payment or penalty.

I do love this forum someone always answers your questions.

Thanks again for thinking of me. I have a friend who spends only six months a year in France (like me) and she uses this system without any problem. (Famous last words!) That's why I wanted to use my own wireless router - so that i dont have to post it back to Orange every time I suspend the account. This friend also runs a "libre acces" account which apparently costs nothing, just the price of a phone call if she needs to use the internet when she returns to France and there is a delay in getting her "a la carte system" working again. She says it also enables her to receive e mails while she is away.

All sounds fine in theory! Time will tell. The thing is, I want to move up to broadband and this seems to be the most economical in my situation. Am willing to be told otherwise of course.
