Living in France for 10 Months

Recommended Posts

I am going to school in France for my last year of university and have some questions that only insiders may know.

I will be traveling with my wife and toddler, so I want to have an idea of how much my year abroad is going to cost.

I am going to be going to Chambery, so if anyone knows the average  cost of things like: Rent, utilities, diapers, wipes, etc.

or a basic cost of living per month in this city, it can really help me out.

Also, how and where to rent a place for 10 months, and visa information.

Thanks.

Contact the french embassy in Canada, they will issue your visas and there should be plenty of info about health care etc and what you need to have temporary residence in France.

For prices just look up supermarkets in France, you'll see prices there, especially when things are on offer.

Chambery is an expensive city, we found the rental agencies were expensive, charging if memory serves well, several hundred euros to sign up to their services as renters.

Do not get anywhere in Chambery Le Haut, maybe cheaper but it is a very strange place, actually looks quite smart and is perhaps the most dangerous place in the area. Two full tv reporting programs about it in the past.

The bus service in and around Chambery is pretty good, so being out as far as St Alban Leysse, Bassins, or La Ravoire and Cognin, even Chambery le Vieux in the other direction wouldn't be too bad.
