Odd phone call - scam?

I've just received a phone call which - when answered - said "Bonjour,  vous avez recu un message important - appuyez sur la touch etoile pour ecouter ce message".

Well I slammed the phone down as it was rather reminiscent of a scam in Britain a few years ago,  when you pressed the requested button the call became chargeable at - wait for it - £1 per minute.

Now I don't know if this one is similar,  but perhaps a warning is in order....?

Or is there an innocent explanation?   (We don't have FT voice mail or anything similar)

I have had some similar calls too. Definitely best to just hang up.

Do you have a facility to get an email  and access to your voicemail when someone leaves a tel message?

I do that with Neuf and I can listen to the message on the laptop.

We have had these. Someone said that, as you suggest, if you push the star button you wind up paying for an expensive call so we never do..................................JR
