R&R
I would like to buy a bigger PC Monitor in UK to bring back to France. If I buy one with a Freeview TV Tuner integrated will I be able to use it as a TV receiver here, or do I need extra gadgets, boxes or satellite dishes - I haven't any tv reception set up at the moment. Any advice available please?
Martin963
Yes it will work in France, but it will only pick up French "Freeview" which is called TNT (television numerique terrestre). And there are a lot of caveats; you need to be in a part of France that is covered (more and more is covered, but many areas still aren't). In addition, you need a good aerial in the vast majority of locations. If it's British TV you're after then you do need a sat box and dish. TNT and Freeview reception are provided on UHF and are limited by the horizon, so if you're in France it's French TV that you'll get on a digital terretrial set. Nick Trollope
Also be aware that TVs with PC inputs (which ones with Tuners in tend to be) are very low (VGA) resolution - I haven't found one that works properly at better than 1024x768.
