Mayennaise
I must have done something on the 'puter without realising it cause every time I open a new tab, instead of the website I have requested coming straight onto the screen, it is preceded by a full screen size ad for something or another - never the same ad!. What have I done??
tel
Your PC seems to be infected with Malware, run your Anti-Virus, and any spyware/adware programmes you may have to detect and remove the offending malware.
Ecossais
If you havent got any spyware detection software, I can recommend the following that I use weekly:Ad-Aware – Download the free version from http://www.lavasoft.com/Spybot Search and Destroy – Download free from http://www.spybot.com/en/download/index.html
Tim
Another free one I find most effective on my XP machines is SuperAntiSpyware. I've helped several friends who have had similar infections and this programme has been the only one that's sorted out the problem.http://www.superantispyware.com/Regards - Tim
Mayennaise
Thanks to you all - have downloaded two of the three above mentioned, run them both and the problem seems to have been cured. Thank you again.

Tim
This happened to an agéd parent - plagued with pop-ups - I talked him through the SuperAntiSpyware installation and then got him to update it and run it. For the first time in nearly a year he was free of the damn things. He called me the following day - 'They're back!!' - I got him to update it and run it again - since then - no problems.I've not heard of 'Dr.Alex' Pierre, but will bear it in mind if I get another call.Tim

Mutiara
I had terrible problems with a laptop that I bought at auction which someone had used for viewing all sorts of porn sites and other stuff and it was full of Malware and rubbish. It had hundreds of pounds worth of great software on it so I couldn't scrub the hard drive completely. I suggest you do what I did and go to "geekstogo.com" and post your "hijack this" log. The people there will give you instructions to clean all the rubbish off of your PC and if you stick with it you will be amazed at how much faster and efficient your PC will become!First link is theire home page and 2nd link is where you post your hijackthislog for analysis.http://www.geekstogo.comhttp://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Malware-Removal-HijackThis-Logs-Go-Here-f37.html
