Mr Coeur de Lion
I need to increase the signal range of our livebox. I have looked at the liveplug solution, but it will not work for my particular needs. Is it possible to increase the signal range of the livebox, perhaps by adding another router? Is this possible?I remember asking a similar question a year ago, but have been unable to locate that thread.
Mr Coeur de Lion
Just found this:http://www.netgear.co.uk/pdfs/WGXB102_DS.pdfWould this work with a livebox? I've heard people highly recommending netgear stuff before. The difference with this and the liveplug is that the liveplug has to be hardwired in at both ends. This netgear seems to be wireless at the far end which is perfect for us as we'll have 2 laptops far away from the livebox requiring wireless connection. Âme
I use a "Wifi Extendeur 85 Mbits" from France Telecom to extend the wifi signal to other parts of the house. It's a two part gizmo & sounds very much like the Netgear one in your link. The first part plugs into a wall socket and has a cable link to the Livebox (via the RED ethernet socket on the Livebox). The second part has a little aerial and plugs into any electrical socket on the same mains circuit. It can be moved into different rooms as needed. I notice that it has come down in price since I bought mine a couple of months ago (I paid 129€ in September, seems that they're 89€ now.)nb. I don't run TV or internet phone from my Livebox... if you've already got something in the RED ethernet socket then you also need an adaptor. If it would help I'd be happy to scan the instruction sheet that came with the product which explains the different set ups.
Mr Coeur de Lion
That looks perfect. Thanks âme, I will look into that. I will be using the red ethernet port for tv when my decoder arrives so it sounds like I will need an adaptor. That is much cheaper than the netgear one too. When you say it needs to be on the same mains circuit, what does that mean exactly? Does it mean it has to be on the same spider leg from the fuse box? And this adaptor, is it a simple 'Y' ethernet adaptor, or somethng a little more complex?A scan of the destructions would be great too, many thanks. Âme
As I understand it, the signal travels through the electrical circuitry so any sockets connected via the same fusebox will work. It says on the instructions that you can get a 'switch' in your Agence FT or from a specialist supplier... I can't see it for sale on the website but there are several internet suppliers if you search 'Switch Ethernet' or 'Ethernet switch'. The instructions are 2-sides A3... there's a slight continuity glitch in the middle of each sheet, because my scanner is A4. If you can't read anything just let me know, you should be able to read the text by enlarging IE using the button in the bottom right of screen, 150% makes the text legible. (sitting up here in very cold, draughty den, far away from the livebox and the kitchen stove!! ha, ha)
Mr Coeur de Lion
You are a star. Thank you very much for all your effort and time.I will look at that and work out if it will do what I need. I think it will.
Mr Coeur de Lion
Received my tv box from Orange today and discovered it plugs into the yellow ethernet port, which means the wifi extender goes into the red port! No switch needed. Problem solved.Order to be placed aujourd'hui! [:D]Just need to find my livebox cd to set my desktop pc up on the wireless dongle and everything will be sweet (as Jeremy Clarkson would say). Jonzjob
If it's anything like the intercom system that used the mains as a signal carrier that I had in the U.K. and have used here then as long as it's on the same phase it will work.I put one of the intercom units in our very elderly (91) neighbours house in Stroud and as he was on the same phase as us he had contact with us if he needed anything! These units here should have a simple encoding system so that your neighbour can't do the same thing here if he gets the same units for his house...
