David Steward
We are undecided about moving to France permanently. I still prefer to have a base in England. Is it possible to rent a house in Fance, with out it being a gite or holiday home? After all the French must do it, rent that is.We are thinking about the coastal area around La Rochelle or the Tarn Gorges.Any coments about renting or the areas would be most welcome. AGB
Hi,We found it really easy to rent a large family home in a village close to Cognac 2 yrs ago. We found that many immobilier have a few properties to rent. Be aware of the tenancy agreement clauses and get a translation if your french is 'conversational' rather than legal!Good luck. Elayne
Renting is easy. Some estate agents have rentals but of course you end up paying agency fees. Best idea is to go to local cafe in the town you want to rent in and ask there. Cafe owners are usually the font of all knowledge
Mjc
Renting is easy and cheap compared with UK. You will find many ads in the local weekly papers, especially the free ones which you can pick up easily in many shops in and around La Rochelle.Note that La Rochelle together with Royan are the dearer parts of Charente Maritime, thus it may pay you to look inland a little if that suit's your life style. We rented when we first came here, whilst house hunting and eventually bought the house we were renting!Good luck.
