Collectors
Hi, hope you can help! We want to fit a unit in a house that will monitor certain equipment & a burglar alarm in a property in France. From this unit we can receive email messages on the status of the house & also receive text message's for the same thing. Do you know or heard of the best way (Cheapest) to send text messages from France to a UK mobile phone. IE: UK sim/French sim or international simMany thanks.Chris.[:)]
Ecossais
How often will the system send you text alerts? If it is only in the event of an alarm activation etc, then a Leclerc pay as you go SIM, with plenty of credit on it may be the best option. You could set the unit up to send alert messages to your UK mobile – these will cost 15p each (per 160 characters). You can add credit via the website. You can get details on the Leclerc PAYG SIM here: http://www.leclercmobile.fr/pdf/fiche-tarifaire.pdfYou’d need to establish that you get a good SFR signal in your property – Leclerc is a “virtual mobile network” that is hosted by SFR.I’d recommend you contact the supplier of the equipment to establish if there are any restrictions – for example, can you configure it to dial a UK number, can you use any network SIM or do you need to use a specific network?Would it not be better for the system to dial a friend in France so that someone can attend in the event of an alarm activation? AnOther
I'd suggest you consider running it from a UPS also, plenty of power cuts in France [;-)]
Collectors
Hi Ecossais, many thanks for the info. Will look into this company. The system can be remotely set up to send daily/hourly or on demand reports on the status of many things in the house.Hi ErnieY, we have many parts in the house on 12 volt from a bank of batteries & which this unit will be also run on. We have about 2 to 3 days of back up power for the essentials. Cheers all.
AnOther
on 12 volt from a bank of batteries
Now I'm intrigued. One or two batteries or a UPS could be seen as sensible, but a bank of batteries..................[8-)]
