Mutiara
Hello I hope someone can please help me.When my home PC boots up I get a svchost.exe application error with the following message " The instruction at "0x75606eb5" referenced memory at "0x00000008". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK terminate the problem. When I click OK the box eventually goes but I can't acess any of my programmes.I cannot access the internet or anything else from that computer now so I am using this laptop to ask the forum if anyone can help? My husband is in the UK and I cannot contact him by email as it seems to have blocked my internet access. I am using the next door neighbours laptop which is not exactly convenient ! I have tried to restore my pc to an earler date but the system won't allow it to happen. Any ideas what I can do to solve this please? By the way I have run my AVG scan and it hasn't found a virus, BUT the problem occured after my grandchildren had been on the computer.
nectarine
I'm not a technie but did a Google search on this and it sounds like a problem with newly installed software. Did your grandchildren instal, or download, something - perhaps to play games on?First off, I would go into START - CONTROL PANEL - ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS and take a look at anything that might have been recently added. There's usually a date next to the program showing the last time it was used or when it was installed, that might give you a clue, and then uninstall it.Now this is what I have downloaded from a forum that was discussing such an issue (and apologies if it is a long item). There are two resolutions, one short and the othe rlong. Here's the short one:This is what I've found to work. Log in and turn off automatic updates. Then reboot. Do a manual windows update. Reboot. Then turn back on automatic updates. This has worked every time that I've this error appears. And now here's the long one:For the error at the login screen ( SVCHOST.EXE - Application Error the Instruction at 0x7c918fea referenced memory @ 0x00000010. The memery could not be written ) The solution is as follows:1- Go to Control Panel 2- Administrative Tools 3- Services 4- go to the following Service : ( Windows Driver Foundation - User-mode Driver Framework ) Right Click then choose Properties ----> in the start up type choose Disabled. Then reboot the system. This should do the trick and stop the error from appearing at the login screen. I guess that Windows MediaPlayer 11 is the one responsible for this error. This advice is taken from a IT specialists chat forum, so I guess it has good credibility. Good luck. Others may give you some different advice but, in the first instance, I guess trying these might help.
AnOther
When you say you couldn't restore what happened. Did System Restore not run or were there no restore points ?If System Restore wouldn't run then try this:Reboot and whilst the machine is starting continually prod F8You should arrive at a text screen with various options one of which is Safe Mode. Choose this then during the start up you will be asked if you wish to continue in Safe Mode or use System Restore so choose that and restore to a point before those pesky kids got their sticky mits on it. Mutiara
Nectarine - Thank you for you reply . I have tried both methods- both the long version and the short version and unfortunately neither of them have solved the problem. I am still getting the pop up svchost.exe error. I have to click on it several times to get it to go and then it comes back when I try to start a programme or connect to the internet.Ernie Y - System restore does give me several restore point options but when I confirm a date and click "next" , system restore just does not want to play ball. I have this problem both in normal mode and also if I boot up in safe mode. In booting up by pressing F8, I also get the option to start up the last good configuration, but that does not work either!Any more help would be much appreciated! It seems like the system restore option has been somehow blocked or disabled?
AnOther
Couple of things to try. You might want to have a look in the event logs.Right click My Computer then Manage.Expand Event Viewer then right click and clear the Application and System logs, up to you whether you save keep them or not, personally I wouldn't bother.Reboot then go back and check the logs to see whats been happening, you might get a clue on what the problem is.Another thing you might try is disabling the pagefile.Again right click My Computer then Properties/Advanced/Performance Settings/Advanced then in Virtual Memory click Change then No Paging File/Set then OK out and reboot. Mutiara
Thank you - I've just had the guy around from next door who works in IT at Glaxo SmithKline and he seemed to have cured the problem. The problem (apparently) was a trojan horse virus that was messing about with my IE. Apparently my computer could still connect to the internet but not via my IE.If it's of any interest to anyone, he used a free programme called "malwarebytes" which was amazing as it cleaned it all up very quickly. he also installed another programme called superantispyware. Thank you to all those who replied it was much appreciated!
