Clair
Assuming you are with France Telecom:There are several free services which can be taken up from the FT website: http://www.agence.francetelecom.com/masquer vos coordonnéesListe orange is if you don't want any marketing calls. (Although marketingcompanies can get your number even if you're on the liste orange, asFT phone books can be purchased by anyone. Therefore anyone who has been listed in a directory is a potential marketing target. The only guarantee you'll have is that FT will not have sold your number directly to them...)Liste chamois is if you don't want to be listed in the phone book.Listerouge will do both services listed above and prevent your number being given out bydirectory enquiries. Despite the scary looking advice shown on FT'swebsite, it will NOT stop emergency services from contacting you, butit will prevent any Joe Bloggs from getting your number. Presumably, anyone you know and trust already has your tel number, sochoosing not to be listed is the ONLY option to ensure FT does notprint/publish your contact details, therefore stopping any marketingcompany from getting hold of them.Secret permanent will stop your number being displayed or redialled from 3131 on all your callsSecre appel par appel will do the same on individual calls..If you are not with France Telecom, you have to specifically request your tel supplier not to be included in the directory.29/07/2011: A new opt-out listing was supposed to have been in place at the end of June 2011, but nothing to date. The Liste Pacitel will allow individuals to register their number if they wish not to receive marketing calls.I will update when (if?) this becomes reality...28/09/2011 update:PACITEL is now live at http://www.pacitel.fr/It will become operational at the beginning of December 2011.
