Problem with Optex ORS 9950 Sat box.

Recommended Posts

Can anyone help?

A friend has recently purchased one of these and I offered to set it up for her.

The dish is set up for Astra 2d and works fine with a Sky box.

Plug this box in and it reverts to Astra 1e and I cannot figure out how to change the satellite. I've set up the TP to 11778 V @ 27.5 and 2/3 but there doesn't seem to be any way to change the actual satellite.

Any help appreciated.

Gary, if it is definitely this one

http://www.castorama.fr/store/terminal-numerique-tntsat-ors9950-PPRDm532267.htm?&zanpid=1274414

then you cannot ust it for any other satellite except Astra1.
It is a TNTSAT box to receive all the French TNT channels from Astra 1. If she wants to receive channels from a different sat. (28.2 for example for English channels) she will need to get a different decoder.
if it is for use there, for BBC etc then she will need a free to air decoder like this one for example

or a FREESAT decoder like this here for example

[:D] Sounds like a ErnieY/AnOther problem.

The Optex9950 is one of several TNTSAT boxes, SD not HD.

TNTSAT is ONLY available on three satelites Astra1,HotBird and AtlanticBird.

But it is more complicated as the TNTSAT requires a Viaaccess card, lasts 4 years, plugs in slot.

You will have to know which satellite is compatible with your card....so what is on the card?

It wont work on ASTRA 2 on any of the satellites located at that slot.

Most probably works on Astra1 or Eutelsat HotBird.

Fiche Technique below works on Astra1 ONLY!!

Lecteur de carte Viaccess ACS 3.0 intégré

•Accès au décrochage régional de France3

•Mise à jour logiciel par satellite

•Capacité de 2000 chaînes Max. (TV et Radio)

•8 listes de chaînes favorites possibles

•Fonction zoom sur écran

•Fonction Teletext et Sous-titrage

•Verrouillage parental

•1 tuner satellite (1 entrée / 1 sortie en fiche « F »)

•2 prises PERITEL (TV et magnétoscope)

•3 fiches RCA (Vidéo, audio droit/gauche)

•Consommation 25W Max.

•CARTE D’ACCÈS À TNTSAT INCLUSE

(Valable 4 ans à compter de son initialisation)

PPP

"TNTSAT is ONLY available on three satelites Astra1,HotBird and AtlanticBird."

just to clarify, TNTSAT is only available on ASTRA 1 19,2E satellite.

Orange TV by sat is available though on Astra1, HotBird and AtlanticBird for those who have it

As I said, TNTSAT is only available from ASTRA 1 but

FRANSAT - your link - a different (but very similar) system is only available from Atlantic Bird 3 at 5.0W

These are not interchangeable systems. The TNTSAT decoders only work with ASTRA 1 satellite but the Fransat decoders as well as getting the TNT channels from AB3 will also manage feeds from other satellites.

It does not help that there is jargon overload [:)]

Now to move on to Bis.....[:D]

Can (and will!) confirm one-hundred-percent what Danny has just re-stated.    I have two boxes of each system,  and the cards are NOT interchangeable.

The TNTsat boxes will ONLY work on Astra 1,  they just lock up if you point the dish at another satellite.   Which is a pain.

En revanche,  a Fransat box will work on any satellite,   but will of course only pick up FTA channels on anything other than Atlantic Bird 3.  (Actually it may be able to unscramble other Viaccess-encrypted channels with the appropriate subscription card,   I don't know).

The great thing about both systems is of course that they work fine in Britain if you transport them back,   thus cocking a most satisfying snook at those oh-so-precious rights holders who so enjoy trying stop Europeans watching each others' TV programmes!

It's only of minor interest,  but Fransat is now (as of the last 48 hours) testing the 28 regional "decrochages" for France 3 on Atlantic Bird 3,  although as they are only tests they won't unscramble,  even with a Fransat card.   The official launch is due 28th Oct and will finally satisfy those Fransat viewers who to date have had to make do with the National Edition of France 3.

Indeed,  and as you are aware PPP BIS have recently tied the existing cards to whichever satellite is in normal use.

I'm not sure quite what it achieves,   but until this recent change you could swing the dish from 13 deg E to 5 deg W and use the same box and card to view BIS from either satellite.

No longer apparently....

BIS and Fransat are in negotiations to share certain facilities (the actual streams for the channels are the same,  at least for the TNT ones).   This may mean that soon a Fransat card and box can be used to view the paying BIS channels (assuming one pays the sub of course),   and a BIS box may - if the negotiations prove fruitful - be used to view the HD versions of the channels currently exclusive (on AB3) to Fransat.

And TNTsat boxes have suddenly and magically become "utilisable" to subscribe to Canalsat and Canal +;  so now we know why Canalsat were keen to get in on the TNT via satellite business,   and how they have cunningly circumnavigated the "restrictions" that prevented them from directly marketing their paying services to people only interested in TNTsat.    If you have a TNTsat box have a look at channels 4 and 19 outside the "plages en claires".   Suddenly all the Canalsat programmes are dual-encrypted in both Mediaguard and Viaccess   (and for that matter Thalescrypt)

Alliances and warfares.....

On Fransat the regional decrochages are now viewable (only with the card inserted).  The first half of the alphabet appeared yesterday afternoon,  and the rest this afternoon at about 17.20 CET.

As yet there is no sign of a software update to facilitate the choosing of a region for non technical users,   but if you want to look at them (and have a Fransat box) then they can be found on

11054 and 10973 MHz,  Vertical,  29950 kbps,  FEC = 7/8.

Actually quite interesting last night scrolling through all the versions from Amiens and Aquitaine and Besancon through to Limoges during the decrochage period.   Will try the rest tonight!
