MisterC
Hello all againWe will be having an Orange package when we move to France next month. Is it possible to connect a wireless router to an Orange box and if so would our UK one work and couold we use the same wirless key? Answers need to be simple for simple soul to understand. Thanks in anticipation of irritation.
Albert the InfoGipsy
I've got my system set up that way. It was bought in France, but I doubt if that is significant. An Orange Livebox has built-in wifi anyway but I had the router from an earlier setup and my Netgear router allows me to have several wired connections as well as the wifi. If your router is already set to talk to your computer(s) you probably won't need to anything more than plug it into the Livebox

Sunday Driver
Alternatively, you could just use your existing router (with the same key) and save yourself the 3€ a month rental charge by not taking the Orange Livebox.....[;-)]
AnOther
Unless you plan to use the VoIP Livephone in which case you will have no option but to use the Livebox [;-)]
Sunday Driver
Just thought of that retrospectively, but you beat me to it....
Quillan
Yes but he said to keep it simple for simple folks. Firstly he has to know how to set up his old router, easy for some of us but it might not be for him. Secondly if he rents the LiveBox and has any problems he can use the English speaking helpdesk to help him sort out his problem. If he uses another router they probably won't want to know. Albert the InfoGipsy
The OP's question was 'Is it possible to connect a wireless router to an Orange box', which indicates to me that the router is just that, not an ADSL modem. On that basis I stand by my suggestion that the router should just plug directly into the Livebox, using the same settings as the English installation. If the router is actually a modem/router then in my experience it probably won't be possible to link it to a Livebox.
AnOther
I took "We will be having an Orange package when we move to France next month" to mean a new contract and I cannot believe that Orange supply anything other than a Livebox these days [blink]
Albert the InfoGipsy
That's my assumption too. I've got a livebox with a wifi router plugged into it, so I don't see any problem with my original answer.
MisterC
Hi - just to confirm - at the moment my netgear wireless router is plugged into a Virgin cable modem. I will be using the phone for free calls to UK etc. Thanks for all your contributions.
Albert the InfoGipsy
Sounds like you'll be OK just plugging your Netgear router straight into the Orange box and then connecting your computer(s) through that. I had a similar setup with a Dartybox and when we switched to Orange I just plugged the Netgear into the Livebox instead. I still use the Livebox for free phone calls.
