Making a live link on the forum

Recommended Posts

This is how I do it, others may be cleverer.!

1) Copy and paste the link

2) Highlight it

3) Click on the ball and chain icon, 2nd from right just above the posting box.

4) This brings up a little box. copy and paste the link in there and check that http hasn't been duplicated at the start of the link, if it has delete it.

5) Check the link is underlined - if it is your link is live and you can click on the 'post' box at the bottom left.

Or if you wanted to be really clever and put in anchor words, you can do a bit of basic html like this: click on me here

There must be inverted commas either side of the url you put in. I haven't put them in above because it would make the link live and you wouldn't be able to see the nut and bolts of it.

See following post to see how this will look.

Or if you use Internet Explorer 8 http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx (which I don't usually) when you put a web address in a post, the link automatically goes live.

Just a small point on automatic links to images. I note in your reply on another thread about broadband that you have uploaded the png image from speedtest.net to your photobucket account; this is not actually necessary and entails a lot of fiddling around which often makes the whole rigmarole frankly just far too onerous. In my humble opinion it is a lot easier to just copy the URL of the image and then just whack it in between the normal "image balises".

Your version [#IMG]http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j205/vienormande/franceisp.jpg[/IMG#]

Hash sign "#" of course not to be used just placed in post to stop activation of hyperlink and result in the two images being displayed again.

Curiously this method is better from a copyright point of view because no copy of the image is made; just a copy of the URL to the image.
