E.Leclerc Phone Card

Recommended Posts

While in France, we use Orange France PAYG. Having read about the advantages of using E.Leclerc PAYG, we decided to purchase one of their cards. At the check out, the girl asked what phone it was to be used in and my wife produced our Orange branded phone which we only use in France.

The sales girl was adamant that Leclerc's card would not function in this phone even though my wife said the phone was unlocked and not tied to Orange. To me it would appear the salesgirl was just trying to boost the sale by trying to sell a complete phone package.

Anyone else had a similar problem? Is anyone using a Leclerc sim in an unlocked phone previously in use to a British service provider?

I bought a leclerc phone PAYG sim and also a phone, simply because at the time I did not know whether my "old" UK phone was unlocked.  When I found out it was unlocked, I tried the Leclerc sim in it, and it worked OK.

In fact, to save changing sims all the time, I now use the "old" UK phone with a UK sim I bought for times when in England, and keep the LeClerc phone for French use (and phoning France from the UK, as I think it may be cheaper).

So, if you are sure it is unlocked, it should be ok, though I am no expert in this matter, and others may come along with better info on this point.

Chez Tinns & Judith,

It sounds very much as I suspected. The salesgirl was probably after making the bigger sale.

It'll be back to the store but this time, the phone will be kept out of sight.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Why not buy a sim for (say) 10€ and see if it works?  (I can't remember the lowest price sim they have without looking it up).  Not the hugest amount to loose if it doesn't.  Except for a minor problem of getting the phone registered with LeClerc (for some reason they did not receive my letter with the required details on it, but we solved that in a phone call), I have to say that it was the easiest of phones to get working.

When I bought the UK sim I got one for £5, again thinking not the largest amount to "loose" if I did not use it all!!

As we were returning to England within 48 hours, the idea was to buy the sim and register it in store to save time carrying out the registration by post in case of any difficulty arising such as you experienced.

As I understand, irrespective of the price of the sim, one must register it in store or by post within 10 days of purchase. If registering by post, do you have use of the phone during this time or do you need to await confirmation of the registration before being able to use the sim/phone?

As the phone has been unlocked for quite a while, and has worked with Orange UK, Orange France, and SFR sim cards plus several others, I just found it rather odd that my wife should be told LeClerc's sim wouldn't work.

All the info is HERE make sure you take the usual ID, lecy bill etc and they will fill out the form and register the phone, it's only a problem with registration if you want to keep your old telephone number, then it takes a bit longer.

I think the staff didn't really know what to do, and I hadn't taken any docs with me, so didn't hang around to do it in store (the store was in the hands of the builders at the same time as trying to keep going which complicated matters!).  However, I could use the phone before it was registered, and it did seem to "action" straight away - ie when I turned the phone on I received its mobile number via a txt and it worked from then on.

Hi Wendy,

Changing the subject to TV channels, I've noticed when I return to our residence secondaire and plug everything back in, it takes anything from 2 - 5 days before 5 and a few of the other channels come back.

I can guarantee though that one channel I receive this month will not be available on my next visit, but will be available on a later visit.

Very strange, gremlins at work perhaps[:D]

  • 9 months later...

As I was googling "Leclerc sim card problem", this thread appeared, so I am resurrecting it.

I have had a Leclerc sim card with their mobile deal for a while  now (from an de-blocked, previously orange one), and it had been unproblematic, until a while ago, when I was suddently unable to send text messages. Before this happened, I kept getting a message "Outbox full" - which I was never able to solve, in spite of going over the instructions with a fine toothcomb.

I have also taken my mobile phone to two mobile shops now, every time have had a young whippersnaper who took the phone of me, said, no problem, I have re-initialised it, should be OK now. Needless to say, it didn't make any difference, still can't send text messages. I just type out the message, press send, then it tells me "unable to send"

I am not the savviest technoperson BTW[:D] But today, eureka, after working out which is the battery and which is the sim card, I took my OH's phone (he is with Bouygues) and swapped sim cards. My sim card on his phone, is still refusing the send text messages - so it is now obviously a sim card problem.

I have absolutely no idea if this is common or  not, if it is fixable or not, and am utterly perplexed as to why it should have happened.

I just wonder if the only solution is to forget my present simcard, (???) and whether I should start from scratch, with a new one??? And if so, do I lose my present credit?

Thanks to anyone who can give me some idea about why, what to do, where to go next.

You must forgive me if I'm teaching my grandmother how to suck eggs,  but you don't at any point mention that you've deleted the contents of your outbox,   which is where unsent messages are stored if for some reason you've written them but not actually sent them.

On my phone it's a case of going to the outbox,  clicking one at a time on each of the listed messages (so that they open up and are editable),   and then choosing erase.   It may not be the same on yours.

As I say,   you may have already done that so apologies if you have!

Our original Orange 1999 SIM card (British Orange) only stores nine messages in all,   spread across inbox/outbox and whatever other options there are.   It won't receive or send further messages until room is made.

Martin, I would not know how to suck eggs if my life depended on it, so, very grateful for your input.

I seem to have cleaned up everything, have an empty boite d'envoi, empty everything, and it still tells me, after I have written a text message "Envoi message impossible!".

Anyway, what you say is encouraging - maybe there is something I have totally overlooked, although - having taken the phone to 2 different shops, it is surprising that they would not have thought about it. I will try yet another shop. Thank you very much.

Failing that, I suppose I should get back to Leclerc...[:(]
