Iceni
Having cancelled the Orange contract now find that the phone is blocked. They would be happy to do it but at a fee I consider outrageous. Is it possible for someone other than Orange to unblock it ? If so, who, where, how etc. ?Many TIAJohn
AnOther
Locked phones are illegal in France.Even on a contract you can ask for the phone to be unlocked and they have to do it. If the contract is under 6 months old they can charge you but after that they have to do it for free. Sounds easy then but likely you'll find that they will say that they have to send it away and the postage costs will far exceed what you would pay to have it unlocked yourself, a bit like a Ryanair refund which costs more in admin charges than you stand to get back [;-)]
Pierre ZFP
What phone is it?Some are easy, some impossible (or nearly so)Unfortunately with Orange they have this nasty habit of tying the phone to the network so that only they can unlock it hence the large fee (which I'm fairly sure they aren't allowed to chage)
Théière
Usually information on the net just google your phone and unlocking.
tonyinfrance
Not sure how relevant it is but in UK pretty much any handset can be unlocked for about £10 - usually while you wait (the operation itself takes no more than a few minutes). It's not difficult at all but operators and their retail outlets natuarally have no interest in doing it but any half-decent indie will have no problem unlocking your phone...
