johnycarper
Can anyone advise about ip address as when you try to watch some stations on the computer it says you are not able as you are not in territory.i have been told if you download a ip bloker it enables you to watch any station. If this is the case does anyone know a good ,easy to use and not expensive one. AnOther
It's not an IP blocker you need but a proxy and the topic has been discussed here on numerous occasions.Search for iPlayer or better still use Google and get a world of advice and not just the miniscule subset you'll get on a niche forum like this [;-)]
Pierre ZFP
My son built me a beautiful little Linux server in the UK. It runs on an Intel Atom and when its going full whack consumes a miserly 44 Watts !!Connecting to it is not exactly click-and-go but is not difficult either.I use ePutty to remote logon to the server then, using Chrome, I change the settings so it uses the Linux server as a proxy (you have to specify the ip address and socket) and then off you go! I have a reasonably fast (8Mbit) connection both in the UK and here but even so it will stutter sometimes, not often though and of course I can always download stuff by say BBC iplayer to watch laterAnother bonus is that I can listen to the cricket on 5 Live Sports Extra! Pierre ZFP
but surely that would be illegal? And Forum rules prohibit encouraging others to break the law [;-)]
AnOther
Ah but is the geographical restriction the BBC's own policy or actual law ?From reading their T & C's it seems to me that by accessing it from outside UK, by whatever means, all you are doing is breaking the software agreement for the iPlayer, hardly a capital or criminal offence [;-)]
Pierre ZFP
Ah yes, true. In the same league of 'offence' as stepping on cracks in the pavement or watching satellite transmissions outside the intended receiving country I suppose.I was just trying to point out that the use of a proxy may not be as simple as point and click and a small amount of 'puter savvy may be needed although it's not difficult if you understand the principles.[geek]I also didn't want to get the blame for things like 'My Livebox doesn't work since you got me to set up a proxy' [+o(]
Mr Coeur de Lion
I've been using iportal.me the past few months as a proxy. €5 a month and works well, can watch uktv anywhere in the world thanks to it.
