AnOther
Windows 7 or MAC only unfortunately but this bit of free software turns an ethernet connected laptop, or PC with WiFi card, into a WiFi hotspot which might give some coverage where presently they are struggling or have none.http://www.connectify.me
Alan Zoff
Anyone who has read my posts before will know that this is not my subject but I will add this link as it just happened to have been sent to me today and might possibly be relevant:http://www.memorybits.co.uk/shop/computeraccessories/trendnet-150mbps-micro-wireless-n-usb-adapter-tew648ubm/21161Well, I say "link", but looks like a paste to browser job. AnOther
Neat if you need such a jobbie and certainly affodable. You could use it in a wired desktop PC and then use the software from my post to turn it into a quasi WiFi repeater. Paradoxically though it's best feature, it's size, is also it's biggest drawback. The antennas built into USB WiFi dongles are already a huge compromise and this, being that much smaller, will likely perform even worse. Here's a clickable link [;-)]http://www.memorybits.co.uk/shop/computeraccessories/trendnet-150mbps-micro-wireless-n-usb-adapter-tew648ubm/21161It's available in France with free postage toohttp://www.zoombits.fr/search_results.php?keywords=TEW-648UBM&x=8&y=
Alan Zoff
As an aside, how did you turn it into a useable link when I couldn't? Normally when I copy a URL (if that's what it's called), paste it and hit return, it underlines itself and becomes a link. But not always. What am I missing (other than any aptitude when it comes to IT)?
AnOther
Paste the link, or even just type a piece of text, into your post then highlight it.Click on the Hyperlink button and paste the link into the box.http://www.memorybits.co.uk/shop/computeraccessories/trendnet-150mbps-micro-wireless-n-usb-adapter-tew648ubm/21161ore.g. USB DongleVoilaThere is a third way. Paste the info like you did then enclose it in [ url] [ /url] but without the leading spaces. Without those the commands would be invisible.Go back and edit your post and see how it works. Alan Zoff
Thanks AnOther. I'd like to think that I will catch up with the rest of you some day. But there are lots of things I like to think....
