RKF
We need to get a phone line installed in a new build house. Am I right in saying that if we go with a provider other than France Telecome / Orange that there will be no bi-monthly line rental charge to pay in addition to the phone / internet package? Thanks,Richard

RKF
Thanks Sue - I'm not looking for an English provider, just the best deal I can find! I like the look of the SFR package, in particular for the SFR WiFi part which could be useful when out and about. Price wise it also looks good, I'm just not clued up on whether we'd also pay France Telecom line rental with this as an example. Any ideas anyone?Richard

[/quote]No you wouldn't, but at the advertised price it assumes you would be degroupé ie the line owned by SFR, whereas for many of us the line is rented by SFR from FT so we consumers are required to pay an additional 5€ a month as we are classed as non-degroupé. FT is being a bit slow at unbundling their lines - for obvious reasons.Sue
RKF
OK....so from a quick test I can see that our neighbours line "est située sur une zone non dégroupée". That means then that I'd pay the tariff shown by SFR plus 5€ a month in effect for line rental. Do you know if this amount is paid to in this case SFR, or to France Telecom? suein56
Your abonnement amount is paid to SFR. We pay 36€90 a month to SFR ie 31€90 + the extra 5€ as we just have adsl and phone from SFR in a non-dégroupée zone.Sue
RKF
Sue - thank you very much. You've made the waters a lot clearer now! Time to get on the phone to SFR and start the ball rolling me thinks.Richard
suein56
Orange also do their own package where you do not have to have an FT line; I cannot remember the name of this particular offer as Orange vary the name, price and conditions from time to time. Though usually you have to rent the Livebox from Orange to take advantage of their included telephone calls, which adds 3€ a month to the bill. Their speed can be higher than SFR though - on purpose, of course.Sue
