Russethouse
My BT outlook express just will not accept my password and keeps asking for it, I've tried actually typing it in instead of just clicking on OK...... I can go to the BT site and pick mail up there...but its a nuisance.........any ideas ?
Dart16
The obvious one....caps lock?failing that... give it a day or two, perhaps the pop mailbox is down/being serviced.failing that..password may have been changed, either accidentally or maliciously
Russethouse
checked caps lock......and have tried a couple of options (cap first letter and adding 1 to the end) that I sometimes use...its irritating but at least at present I can pick up email somehow....Thanks
Pickles
I presume that you have a webmail access to the mailbox? This would use the same password, so if your account had been compromised, you wouldn't be able to get in that way either. Can you get in via webmail?RegardsPickles
Albert the InfoGipsy
When I get odd problems with passwords I start by typing into something where I can actually see the characters (e.g. Notepad in Windows machines) and then copying and pasting into the mail login dialog. As you can get into your Webmail you should be able to insert exactly the same password into your Outlook Express setup and use that. Have you checked the other settings in OE? Account name? POP server? SMTP server? It's just possible that something has been corrupted.
Alan Zoff
Don't know if it will help with this problem but, as a TalkTalk ISP user, I frequently have access difficulties. The answer is often to access my emails via the "mail2web" hosting service. Seemed a bit scary at first but I am not aware of security problems with the site in practice. Russethouse
I can pick up the email on the BT Yahoo site, but I'd much rather use OE...... if it doesn't work by Monday I'll call my usual techie......[:(].
Russethouse
Would you believe it, logged on today and my email just downloaded itself into OE with no problem and no password required........ [:D]
JSKS
Would you believe it, logged on today and my email just downloaded itself into OE with no problem and no password required........ [:D]
Very occasionally, maybe once a year, we find the same thing with Windows Mail. We have 4 accounts, 3 will download but login and password is asked for the 4th. Ignore this and the email will not be retrieved. But after a few hours - no problem. It's an odd one isn't it?
Judith
About two nights ago I tried to send a a largish email with three attachments via my Outlook equivalent - after three goes when it would not send (this happens on occasion) even after rebooting the computer, I sent it via the web mail from the same address and it happily went. All that night when I tried to send I kept getting error messages - next morning - it all worked perfectly. This happens from time .... and has so far always righted itself after a day / night or so. Suspect that is what happened this time.
