WendyG
I keep getting pop ups trying to get me to install Java on my PCs - should I install or can this cause me future problems. I am loath to dowload programmes which then alter my present settings.I have Google and use AOL as my e-mail provider. As you will see I am not computing "savvy".My attitude is normally if everything is going well don't change it!WendyG
sid
Some websites will not work properly unless you have Java installed. So, it's not mandatory but you may not get full functionality if you don't install it. You are getting the pop-up message either because you haven't got it installed, or you have previously installed it and an update is now available.More information here: http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/whatis_java.xmlEDIT: I've had it installed for years with no problems.I'm modifying my post; it's not essential at all and you can run quite happily without it. I think the reason that you're getting the pop-up is because you've hit a website that needs it.There's loads of info and opinion if you Google it, here's another opinion. http://askville.amazon.com/run-JAVA-platform-PC-operating-system-Windows-XP/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=18532527
