CeeJay
I am looking at getting a Panasonic Viera TX-L37V20B.This model has FreeSat and Freeview built in. It also boasts being able to connect to iPlayer via the red button when in FreeSat. However a friend has suggested that the connection can only be made to iPlayer if the TV is connected to a computer via the ethernet connection built in and not downloaded via the satellite signal and therefore will detect the computers IP address as being French and then would not connect. I would be grateful for any thoughts on this before buying when back in UK.
cooperlola
Here's a bit more about Viera Cast:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viera_CastInteresting that one of the - only 3 - reviewers on Amazon has not been able to get i-player to work with it. I'd be amazed if, even so, you'd get a connection as it would, as you say, be almost bound to recognise your French isp because it does use the internet but hopefully somebody else will know for certain. But you could of course use a proxy such as expatshied (when it's up and running again!).
AnOther
All is explained here:http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/2010/01/update_iplayer_on_freesat.htmlIf you think about it's always going to be tied back to an Internet connection because you have to interact with it to tell it what you want to watch. Richard
What you need is a Router that can create a VPN to your Proxy in the UK. This is one such device "Linksys E2000 StrongVPN Client Router - N". I'm sure there are other that are cheaper. It is a very common solution for SOHO working enabling a few computers to share a VPN setup by the router. Suggest though that you contact your Proxy Admin to check what will work!RegardsRichard
