Hereford
Hi, we imagine our telephone (the actual instrument) will need to be consigned to telephone heaven. If one tries to telephone out it appears to dial the number but after a deathly silence the phone one is ringing appears engaged. Having discovered that the caller we were trying to contact earlier has not had any calls today, nor used his dial-up internet connection we realised we had a problem. We cannot get incoming calls either as we have tried to and from our mobile phone.I have unplugged, re-plugged, changed adsl filter but nothing helps. An old fashioned basic phone we keep for when we have a power cut works perfectly.Do all you experts agree our telephone has died please? Anything else to try? We will be sad to lose it as there are 3 handsets and one is in our workroom over the garage, 50 metres away, and allows internal communication with the house. Thanks a lotMrs H
AnOther
If it's been working but has stopped then it does suggest a duff instrument. As a final test before cremation you could try taking it to a friends house and see it it exhibits the same behaviour there. suein56
Just some thoughts :Have you looked at 192.168.1.1 and checked that your internet telephony is functioning correctly ?If not then perhaps a synchronisation of your adsl set-up is needed. How long have you had the trio of phones ? Do any of the rechargeable batteries need replacing ?Sue
AnOther
I see nothing in the OP's post to suggest that we are talking about a VoIP phone [;-)]
Quillan
Sounds like the 'base station' to me. If a normal 'wired' phone works then it has to be something to do with the phone. If you have the manual you might try a factory reset of all the phones and base station (as opposed to unplugging the base station for a few minutes from the electricity supply). If you don't have the manual and the phones are from a branded maker you might try their website, they often have manuals you can download.. Hereford
No, it is just an ordinary phone, so will find manual and see if we can re-set the base station. All handsets are Ok and do not seem to need batteries. Thanks for suggestionsMrs H
Hereford
Tried everything - definitely bust! Bought a new phone today and happened to see an acquaintance who lives near us - they had heard of several phones going down after a local power cut. Annoying though as ours was plugged in via a surge protection device.
powerdesal
a power 'cut' is the same as unplugging from the mains supply and will not cause any failures. A voltage surge will ( can ) however.
Hereford
That is what is annoying as phone was plugged into a "surge" protector. The power "cut" was during the night and we don;t know why it happened, it was not us though but EDF as power came back on automatically.Never mind we have a nice new phone.Mrs H

[/quote]Sometimes that is not enough ... some people we know, who live not 20 km from us, suffered their main FT socket being blown from the wall during a storm. Their line was completely fried.Sue
