Clair
Mr Clair ordered a Chromecast from Amazon and delivery should be tomorrow...Out of curiosity, has anyone ordered, bought or used one yet?
Chiefluvvie
Hi Clair - yep I've had one for a while - brilliant, cheap (mine was around $25 but I believe they are 35€ in France) and works faultlessly. Great alternative to a satellite dish if you have decent broadband speeds.I just recommended Chromecast on a previous thread about internet tv...Happy viewing!Chiefluvvie :-). Clair
Thank you both! The gadget has just arrived but I have to wait for Mr Clair to come back from work, just because he'll want to be the one to use it first! For those wondering what this does, it simply transmits whatever you see on your laptop/tablet/Smartphone to a Smart TV."Plug Chromecast into any HDTV, connect it to Wi-Fi, then send videos and more from your smartphone, tablet or laptop to your TV with the press of a button.""With Chromecast, you can easily enjoy your favourite online content on your HDTV – movies, TV programmes, music, photos and more from BBC iPlayer, Netflix, YouTube, Google Play Movies and TV, Google Play Music and Chrome. No more huddling around small screens and tiny speakers. Chromecast automatically updates to work with a growing number of apps. Certain applications are optimised for Chromecast. Streaming quality for other content may vary. Remote-free: Chromecast works with Android tablets and smartphones, iPhone and iPad devices, Chrome for Windows, Chrome for Mac, and Chromebooks. Browse for what to watch, control playback and adjust volume using your device. You won't have to learn anything new."
Quillan
Clair, I take it that this simply replaces the need for a cable between the TV and Laptop/Tablet?
Clair
That's right, with the added advantage that you control everything on the TV screen from within the app installed on your chosen device(s).Of course, this is only as good as your internet connection allows...
