Chrissie
Our TV has started pixellating for about 1-2 seconds every time we change the Sky channel. Thereafter the picture is great. It does not do this on French TV channels. It still does it if we use a different Sky remote control. Teletext pages are sometimes unreadable and they stay that way.Is this likely to be the TV or the Sky box which is playing up. (Or the dish?......)All thoughts welcome!Chrissie (81)
Pierre ZFP
what sort of figures are you getting for signal strength and quality on the pixellating channels (compared to the channels that are OK)Could be as simple as a dodgy cable connection
Chrissie
All channels show good signal strength. I am getting convinced it is the LNB connection so will ask someone to come out and look. Feeling relieved that it doesn't seem to be the telly starting to give problems.Chrissie (81)
Théière
Signal quality is more important than strength, what are you getting with that?On our old LNB we had pixellating occasionally but on many different channels, turned out to be wasps inside the LNB casing. Quillan
We had this discussion about Sky boxes and signal strength and quality ages ago. Sky boxes use the EPG channel to indicate signal strength and quality which is on wide beam and not the actual channel you're watching. If you look through the Astra 2F thread somebody explained it very well there. Hence when you got no picture when C5 went on a smaller dish it still showed good signal and strength. You need something like a HUmax box or other decoder to see each channel, the Sky box is pretty crude.Personally I would first unplug and put back the satellite cable on the Sky box. Next if possible I would find a mate and borrow their Sky box to try. If I still got the same problem then I would be looking at either the cable (I was supprised when I looked after five years exactly what effect direct sunlight has on cheap cable, makes the outside go brittle and fall off if touched), connector into LNB or LNB and possibly disk alignment although I doubt the latter but then you never know. Of course that means being able to test it and if you don't have the equipment and your dish is high up and you don't like ladders then call in a specialist. Our local (French) guy charges between 60 to 90 Euros a visit depending on time. At current exchange rates thats not a lot of money. The alternative is just to live with it until it really fails. [/quote]Last weekend my neighbour had all signals fail on his setup. His solution? Go up on the roof with a large hammer and pound on the dish fittings [:-))]Did it work? No [:(]I just gave him the phone number of a very good (and local) Satellite chap
Chrissie
Problem sorted[:D]Er, it was the scart connecting box to TV - wiggling it made all the difference. I love a low-tech, cheap solution.....[:$]So glad I didn't have to delve into beams and footprints etc etc, but thanks for all the input. Next time I will wiggle first.Chrissie(81)

Pierre ZFP
Glad you're sorted. It always seems strange to me that some of the most hi-tech stuff in our homes is linked up with some of the most awful connectorsScart plugs and F-Plugs. I'm glad HDMI leads are a bit better than Scart now
