Mrs Trellis
Our Humax box is misbehaving. A couple of times in the evening it tells me 'no or bad signal' when the weather is fine and only works on BBC 1. When I have set it to record Ch 4 or ITV it hasn't done it!It seems to work fine in the daytime, though I'm not trying to record then.Any ideas? Quillan
It will probably be cable connector, cable, LNB, dish size (most lickly) or dish alignment. People round me with 120/130cm dishes are having the same problem. I don't because I have an even bigger dish and size IS everything. You should find in four to six weeks time it will be OK if you leave it.
Mrs Trellis
We had a bigger dish installed a couple of years ago and it was fine till last week. I don't understand why we get all Freesat channels in the daytime but not in the evening...It's annoying as I set it to record a couple of programmes I particularly lie, and it doesn't! But happily recorded 'Escape to the continent' yesterday - featured houses in our area, I know some of the properties. And it recorded something on ITV the other night. Quillan
Well you probably didn't get the right size or it's not aligned properly. You need specialised equipment to align bigger dishes (over 1M). If everything is OK then it is a bigger dish you need. If you bought yours 2 years ago then you bought it before the second (2F) and third (2G) satellite (the latter is not used for UK TV at present) was even launched so you jumped the gun a bit. If the dish is too small then you get atmospheric problems at certain times of the year which has been know since the first satellite came on line. The 'window' of time it does not work does move over time and there may be a time when you can get little or nothing in the day but everything is OK at night. PaulT
Have a look at:http://skyinmadrid.com/pages/news.htmland you can align a dish bigger than 1m using a TV and the signal strength / quality meters of a Humax box.And yes, reception does change during the year. woolybanana
Mrs Trullis, have you tried speaking firmly to the box; the technique is to turn it on and stand about six feet from it, then wag your finger and give it severe warnings. This usually works. Well, maybe!

PaulT
Well Q, I have achieved the impossible. I have installed a dish of 1.3m and have aligned it myself using the method stated. No professionals with their meters have been involved.
