woolybanana
As I am moving I decided to change internet providers after some distinctly substandard service from SFR Neufbox.Needless to say they try to put various obstacles in your way such as insisting that one writes to an address somewhere in Arras. I exploded and told them to do it over the fone which they claim to have done. (We shall see!)Then, surprise, surprise, Frais de Resiliation of 45 euros. When I signed up years ago to a company that was subsequently taken over and taken over again, no such things. What a load of thieving mongrels. Please do not use them if you can avoid it; their internet has been crup, always cutting out, and their telephone has frequently been dead. They are thieving shysters of the worst order.I hope this is not naming and shaming as it is my experience over several years, which I hope to help others avoid.Grrrrrrr
pomme
Yes, I had to pay up when I changed from SFR to OVH. I had been with Tele2 before it was taken over by SFR. There was no resiliation charge with Tele2 after you'd been with them for a few years. But SFR sneaked the resiliation fee in the new contract which you more or less had to accept by default. I think there was a way of getting out of it if you did something very soon after the new contract was issued but I don't think anyone noticed.OVH customer service is much better but they actually use the SFR boxes, etc in my local exchange as there are so few OVH customers in the area. EuroTrash
I once tried to help a friend who had bought a cheap basic phone and sim card in an SFR shop and discovered he could receive calls but not make them. He assumed it needed topping up so he he put lots of credit on and still couldn't make calls. Went with him to the shop and they shrugged their shoulders. Finally I went onto online help and was told he had a data only sim with 50€ credit on it. No they could not transfer the credit to allow him to make calls. No they could not refund it. Why did the shop sell him a data sim with a basic phone that doesn't do data? well that is not our problem, it is your friend's fault because he should have checked that he was buying the correct product.**!!*!*
idun
Couldn't you have told them that you were leaving the country??? I know we were, but it was not as if they checked up.If you speak french like a native, then next time you call, put on a strong anglais accent and see what they say.We had our contract changed several times, started out with WorldonLine and cannot remember who we ended up with, we had at least two awful companies who took over and the last had me just about round the bend with their nonsense, but they did not charge me though. woolybanana
Yes, Idun, even tried a real Arabic accent as the speaker seemed to be North African but that was it, no way round it. I am gonna write to the only sane minister in this insane administration to see if he cannot censure the barstewards, but not much hope.
mint
Hm.......the 45 euros IS in the contract, at least it is in mine.Do not waste any more time on this, you'll just be told to read your contract.
idun
I think as a matter of principle I'd contact the DGCCRF and ask them about it and ask for the text to prove to SFR that you should not be paying.
suein56
But I believe all companies charge a fee if you want to leave them. Usually your new provider pays the leaving fee for you as part of their welcome pack !So the only times you lose are if you are leaving the country or not signing up with a new provider.Sue
woolybanana
Yes, I was also with Tele2 before the takeover. Their service was much better an their boxes seemed to be more powerful.Thank you Sue, I did think about that, but there will be a hiatus of up to three months before the house I am moving to is signed over so it seems cheaper to get rid of SFR now rather than try to suspend the contract. And I shall be staying in a place that already has an internet provider. Quillan
Well personally I have never had a problem with Orange and have always been dealt with very quickly and efficiently. In general the only time you hear about things like ISP's etc. is when somebody has a bad experience. Nobody normally seems to bother to say how good a company is. I believe they are still the only company that has a dedicated English speaking sales and helpdesk with regard to ISP's etc. for those that need it.
