Christine Animal
I just happened to go on Mélissa's blog (the young girl I already mentioned before, she is now seventeen, near Niort). She is completely devoted to Animal Rescue and has already rescued no end of pets herself.Under another thread Vervialle asked me what it is like at Niort. Mélissa has made a little vidéo which I was unaware of until I saw her blog today. At the beginning you see the refuge of Niort (there is even the Pushkins' Poppy there). Don't worry, all the Niort dogs on the vidéo have been rescued thanks to the help of refuge Fontorbe, Coup de Coeur Coup de Patte and other rescuers who have chipped in to lend a hand. Even the cats who were being put down every week are now being saved. An important note, the images at the end of the vidéo are to make people realize, but they are of course not at Niort.http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x392ah_video-abandons0002_animalsWe can do what we are doing with your help in offering homes to these pets. Thank you all for having taken in so many in 2007. A new year is about to begin, please continue to help us. Many thanks.Melissa's blog http://ils-souffrent-en-silence.skyrock.com/ and this just about fits me !When I am Old... I shall wear Turquoise and soft grey sweatshirts...and a bandana over my silver hair...and I shall spend my Social Security Checks on Sweet Wine and My Dogs...and sit in my house on my well-worn chair and listen to my dog's breathing. I will sneak out in the middle of a warm Summer night and take my dogs for a run, if my old bones will allow...and when people come to call, I will smile and nod as I show them my dogs ...and talk of them and about them...The Ones so Beloved of the Past and the Ones so Beloved of Today... I still will work hard cleaning after them and mopping and feeding them and whispering their names in a soft, loving way...I will wear the gleaming sweat on my throat, like a jewel. And I will be an embarrassment to all...and my family...who have not yet found the peace in being free to have dogs as your Best Friends... These friends who always wait, at any hour, for your footfall...and eagerly jump to their feet out of a sound sleep, to greet you as if you are a God. With warm eyes full of adoring love and hope that you will stay and hug their big, strong necks...and kiss their dear sweet heads...and whisper to them of your love and the beautiful pleasure of their very special company... I look in the Mirror...and see I am getting old...this is the kind of woman I am...and have always been. Loving dogs is easy, they are part of me, accept me for who I am, my dogs appreciate my presence in their lives...when I am old this will be important to me...you will understand when you are old...and if you have dogs to love too. Christine Animal
Times are hard for many people and this is also a cause of some of the abandoned pets as families can no longer afford or be able to keep them. This video is in the States, but it could be here in France, as we see more and more the examples of pets who have even been purchased from reputable breeders and shortly afterwards their owners are no longer able to assume their future. If you are already a pet owner and feel you could take on a second more unfortunate dog or cat, please let me know. Many thanks.Saying Goodbye to your Home
