valB
Does anyone know anything about the Charity who offers money for the SPA if older dogs are rescued to cover vet bills ? The original thread is one of the missing ones but I just wondered if anyone had more info about this scheme. It might encourage a few more people to consider adopting an older poor dog who has no chance of a lovimg family to care for it in it's latter years. I understand it is up to 600 euros toward the bills that may have to be paid over the few years these dogs have left.
Christine Animal
It is Fondation 30 Millions d'Amis who have offered this to certain refuges, not all of them, for dogs over ten years of age. Poitiers SPA benefit from it.Opération Doyens
valB
What a wonderful idea. So many older dogs will now benefit from this scheme and ten years of age can still mean several years of fun with a new owner.
Rowan
Christine (as the expert)Do you know why not all SPAs benefit from this, please? I know there are two types of SPA, one that can pick and choose the dogs it takes and one that is obliged to take all-comers. Can you explain why this difference, please? And is this why the Carcassonne SPA is not listed on the central SPA website? Many thanks!Rowan
Christine Animal
I am no expert, but I shall try to answer your questions as far as I can.Why not all SPAs benefit from this? That you would have to ask the Fondation 30 Million d'Amis. But I would imagine the obvious reason is funding."I know there are two types of SPA, one that can pick and choose the dogs it takes and one that is obliged to take all-comers. Can you explain why this difference, please?" This I cannot explain as I have never heard of such a thing. I don't know of any refuge that is obliged to take all-comers. Maybe you are mixing up with the fourrières (pounds)."And is this why the Carcassonne SPA is not listed on the central SPA website?" I don't know the Carcassonne SPA, but there is often confusion about the name SPA.There is the SPA de Paris which runs certain refuges all over the country http://www.spa.asso.fr/7-magazines-animaux-spa.htm http://www.spa.asso.fr/37-presentation-societe-protectrice-animaux.htmThen there is the Confédération Nationale des SPA de France, Lyon which has private refuges as its members and has nothing to do with the SPA de Paris. But these refuges also call themselves SPA which leads people to believe that there is only one SPA. Maybe the Carcassonne SPA is with the Confédération de Lyon. http://www.spa-france.asso.fr/ Clear as mud I know! [:D]

valB
The rufuge les-chiens-de-figeac appears to have this scheme unless I am reading it wrong. They have a considerable amount of older dogs so if I am right this could make a vast difference in re homing them.
