Christine Animal
His name is Romeo. He was born in January 2000. He has been in the Niort pound for a month now and his owner is not taking him back. I can get him out, but the poor thing has to have somewhere to go. Would someone like to offer him a home?
Frenchie
What a beautiful dog .. !Is he " sponsorized" by the 30 million d'amis convention ? Did they say if he is neuteured ? OK with cats ?Not to worry you Christine, just to maybe help people open their hearts and door ! to this lovely chap !
Christine Animal
You must be joking, the fourrière of Niort does not have a convention with "30 Millions d'Amis" ! [:D] Still a long way to go before that. Only some SPA have it.I doubt if he is castrated (or if they have even looked, but we can try to find out) and there is no test with cats in a fourrière unfortunately. Christine Animal
Poor Romeo is still there since June. Sorry I didn't answer before Frenchie, but there was question of someone having him (not through me), but it fell through.
Suandpete
Has anyone been able to find out if he has been neutered?
Christine Animal
I very much doubt it Suandpete, though you never know. I'll call to ask if they can have a look this afternoon if ever you are interested. But it can always be done by our vet afterwards as you are not far. Please pm or call me if you'd like to talk about it. [:)]

Christine Animal
To answer you queries Su, they say he is not neutered. After he was found a registered letter was sent to the owner's address (through the tattoo), but came back as if he/they were no longer there. Frenchie
Hope you can do something for him. . . I don't know why, I've kept thinking about that boy since Christine first posted .. I can't have him, as I already have two dogs, ( and couldn't afford the vet fees for three. )Fingers crossed for him..Poor Romeo, he must suffer firom the heat .. Suandpete
Yes, I've been thinking about him too - however we have 2 dogs already - one ten and one twelve and the thought of the vets fees is just one more problem. The main one is that he's not neutered. We're still thinking about all the angles.
suein56
But Christine did say earlier:"But it can always be done by our vet afterwards as you are not far."Perhaps this might mean he would do it at the price for the association, not a normal vet price. Check with Christine. It might just be do-able.Sue - fingers crossed [:)]
Christine Animal
Thank you Sue, that's what I already said to Su by pm. [:)]
Suandpete
Yes I understand that - but if he came to us he wouldn't be neutered at first and if there were problems between the dogs and he had stitches and was recovering from an op it would be so unfair on all three of them. Ours are 10 and 12 and he is 11. I would love to get him out in a heartbeat but unfortunately it's not quite as straightforward as that. Part of me wonders if he might be better with a family where he isn't the new one in the pack. but on the other hand this place would be very safe and secure for him. Anguish! Christine Animal
Take your time Su, don't feel pressured. We have a big Yellow Lab I rescued from there a couple of years ago when he was eleven and he's now thirteen. Due to his age we didn't have him neutered and there have never been any problems with the others. He's just a lovely gentle boy.Remember, if you do decide to give it a try, I'm here if there is a problem. Here he is when I got him out. Here with Prince, another oldie rescued from Niort in 2006. I really don't think you should have any problems with such a lovely one as Romeo and it's such a pleasure to be able to take them home.

Christine Animal
Romeo waited patiently in the pound without losing his lovely smile Until the day he was to be rescued by Su and Pete after over two months there. He is so sweet that even the young man at the fourrière kissed him goodbye and from my car Romeo watched him go. Soon he met his new carers, Su and Pete who had bought him a beautiful collar and lead and a disc with his name on it. "Where am I going now?" he seemed to be thinking. Then I kissed him goodbye and off he went with Su and Pete.I am really so grateful to them both and hope they will all be very happy. If only more people who already have a dog or two could show such generosity and kindness, just think of all the oldies who could have a wonderful end to their lives. Not only do they have a lovely, gentle oldie, but also a very beautiful dog. [:)] Here's hoping we get some good news from them soon and that Romeo will be a permanent member of the family with their other two rescued friends. Suandpete
Romeo is superb. I know it's very early days yet but he is lovely. He needs some fresh air, exercise and good food and he'll get all them here. He seems to be getting on well with Molly and Murphy and already is part of the family. Thank you so much Christine.
