Salto ADOPTED but Cactus still needs a home (Cahors, 46)

Recommended Posts

These 2 dogs will be coming into the Refuge at the end of the week unless we can find a warm home for them ASAP.  Both dogs belong to a French lady in difficulty... she has been trying to find a home for the 2 together but now she can no longer keep them.

Both dogs are tattooed (Salto - 2BPK 152, Cactus - 2GSR 739) and vaccinated.  Salto is old and fragile now - he will not last long in the Refuge in this weather, poor boy.  If you or someone you know might be able to foster these 2 for a while - please get in touch for more information on how we can help these 2 and our fostering policy (any veterinary bills will be paid for by the Refuge for a fostered dog).  We are hoping to keep them together as they have grown up together and are inseparable.

SALTO (Labrador - 15 years old)

Cactus and Salto are now in the Refuge.  It has now been assessed that they could be homed separately.  Salto is feisty and independent for his age.  Cactus is a lovely dog, a bit timid but he will blossom into a super dog given a chance.  Both these dogs have had a sorry time and now deserve to find happy new homes.  If you can help by fostering or wish to adopt Salto or Cactus, please get in touch.  We may well be able to help with transport if you are some distance from Cahors.

This person s just said to me " You should know that we would like a good dog "   + "  We have the house from next thursda as you know, if the dog can cope with sleeping in my bedroom and coming out with us in the car..... "   + "  explain that I have a hospital rdv once a month and he would maybe have to survive for half a day on his own, also, if I need to spend time in hospital he would need to go into a kennels or something, but hope this is never going to happen.... needs to be nice with children.... " + "we will have a garden and I will just have to put a fence along one part, but that can be done quite quick.. " +  by the way, I have had dogs all of my life ...... generally german shepherds"

So, hope one of the dog people on here can come up with the right dog for a really nice man and his daughter ( 11) , :-)

Thanks for your help Frenchie!  If this person wants a dog - we might have the right one for him... he could look at our site, and perhaps give us some idea of what sort of dog... size etc...

Not all the dogs are on the site.. so if he wants to let us have more of an idea.... we will see if we have got the right dog to fit his requirements.

I think he's already said what his requirements were ( scroll up , please).

I will indicate the site you ve mentioned.

he's also interested in Christine's "Gampy" , if he's still in need of a good home.

The dog he will take will be in a very loving home, I can tell you.

Hi Frenchie

What about Max the Labrador?? He has his own post on here already.   Ideal family dog, easy to educate, good with children and affectionate.

There is also Benco - who is a softy, very affectionate - but would need that fence up!

There is Virus - very very affectionate and playful - loves to play ball (no cats though!).

There is Phebus - a bit older...but also very affectionate and would enjoy being with a family as an only dog.

Flex, the springer spaniel, also still looking for  a loving home...energetic dog.

PS - looks like a cut and paste job for the links!

Hi Frenchie

Cactus is ok with other dogs, can't say about cats - he may need careful introduction to them as he has not been used to cats!

I can't say about in a car - but will see if anyone has info on that.

He has always been with Salto, and they have spent long periods of time alone together (unfortunately!).  As to being left on his own, again with training, this should be possible for up to 4 hours maximum.

As to be being a runaway, again not to our knowledge, but he would need a settling in period and secure garden to be sure of this.

Sorry it's all a bit of an unknown quantity at first, whenever a dog is adopted/fostered, it is a question of settling a dog in sensibly to begin with and showing him/her what's what.  The first 2 weeks are always the most important in establishing ground rules/routines.

Have you something in mind Frenchie?
