PollyP
PollyP (Dept 86)
My son is sending our old horse out to France for an extended holiday. Can anyone advise me where we can get horse insurance for the journey and whilst the horse is here (he probably won't return to UK). In England the horse is insured through a specialist horse insurance company, but they're not willing to insure him in France.
Richardbk
what sort of insurance are you looking for - injury, death, vets bills ? Can't help with UK insurers. The main insurers in france are AXA and Generalli - but they will generally not insure anything over 12 years - at least in the scope of competition. regsRichard
shas
hello, I have had my horse insured via the local riding school, as he was kept there for a while, but MMA the local insurance company for , cars, houses etc have offered to insure him for me in the future, third party, I think, but will find out more when I go along to them. So I would imagine most local small or large insurance companies would cover your horse for insurance purposes. Sharon.
PollyP
PollyP (Dept 86)
Many thanks for that. At his age, 22, I know it's difficult to insure, but I wondered if there was any specialist horse insurers in France, like there are in England. Do you know if specialist horse-shippers would have their own insurance for the horses they carry or would I need insurance for the journey? Being an ex-competition horse he's an excellent traveller, but I'd feel more confident if he came over with experienced transportation people. shas
hi again, when my horse was shipped out here, the company had their own insurance cover, which I would have thought to be a required necessity, but check with them first. As for health cover for your horse, I would have thought if you spoke to a vet in this country, they would point you in the right direction regards Sharon. PollyP
PollyP (Dept 86)
Thanks - I'll speak to my vet and get my son to check out transporters. It's also been suggested that I look in the horsey mags for specialist insurance adverts.
cary
i used John Parker transporter, they were very good and i know alot of others who have used the same company. My horse wasn't used to being boxed and i was worried about her travelling this far as she used to stress alot in a box but on arrival was as calm as can be. Highly recommended, they have a website or if you would like their number let me know.
