Tag
Time to get another dog I think after a few years without. First thought either a black lab or a springer. But what about a new chum from a refuge? Are those places any good in France or are all the animals nuts? Must be good with kids and be able to travel though not to UK probably. Not necessarily keen on some overbred breed nor wanting to pay a fortune. Any thoughts welcome please.
Suze01
We adopted a dog from the SPA. She's gorgeous, completely soppy and great with the kids - go for it. It costs about 100€ to adopt a dog, this covers the vets bill/vaccinations etc. You could also try Pheonix Refuge - they always have loads of dogs (check other threads for their phone number or do a Google)
Deimos
I would also recommend getting a dog from a rescue centre. There is the SPA (nationwide) http://www.spa.asso.fr/or any of the many more localised ones. Once you have you dog, I would also strongly recommend youtake it through the procedures to allow visits/return to the UK a.s.a.p. The main reason is that once the blood testis done and passed you need to wait 6 months before being able to enter the UK(6 months from successful blood sample being taken). The additional test does not cost much, yet the number of timesyou see posts for dogs seeking a new home as their owners “plans have had tochange” and they cannot wait the 6 months before returning to the UK. It quite sad as for a trivial cost andminimal forethought the could have totally avoided such a sad situation. Ian
Miggimeggi
We also have just adopted a dog from a rescue association - a Dane, one of the 'overbred breeds'. She is absolutely adorable, kind, gentle sweet, and if we had kids I am sure she would be great with them. She hasn't a mean bone in her body and is by no means nuts. I am sure that there are dogs at refuges out there who have been so badly treated that they are a bit nuts but there are also plenty who are not and who really need a loving home with a family and kids to play with. Check out the website for Phoenix Assoc. www.phoenixasso.com , or you will find many contributions on this forum from Christine Animal who is sure to have some suggestions.Anne
