Tarrot
Having had a dog for six years we have more or less stopped walking in the Pyrenees (our #1 favourite occupation until dog-ownership set in). We are well aware dogs are not allowed in the National Park, and can see why. But on the few attempts we've made, it seems that dogs are far from welcome elsewhere in the mountains. Our dog comes to a whistle. But he only does this reliably when there are no competing stimuli. We would certainly not like to test his obedience with sheep in view, and have complete sympathy for the working farmers who don't want their livestock worried. Nonetheless, also sympathy for a dog who would rebel if taken on an all-day hike on a lead (which seems a ridiculous idea, in any case). So does anyone have practical suggestions of places to trek with a dog (we are in the Tarbes/Pau/Lourdes area) where none of these stresses occur? Just Katie
Isnt there an old railway line that is now a cycle lane that runs I believe between Argeles and Lourdes. I cycled it last year I think it is about 22kms. But then again do you trust him with cyclists? What breed is he by the way?
Tarrot
As to what he is, I'll have to ask him. It could be embarrassing. Thanks for the suggestion, but we're really looking for high pass walks or ridge walks where the access doesn't pass through no-dog zones. If such exist.
