catsinfrance
Hi there,I am looking to insure my two cats and in the form it asks for the number they have tatooed on. Needless to say, ours have microchips. Do you know if this is sufficient or do I need to get them French numbers and markings? Thanks for any info
Christine Animal
You can probably put their microchip number as you can have microchip or tattoo in France, what they must mean is their identity number. Don't forget, if you haven't already, to get their chips registered here.http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/569611/ShowPost.aspx
Miggimeggi
I am not sure about the requirements for insurance but you can get your existing microchips registered in France which will be a help if your cats are lost. Unless things have changed very recently, a UK microchip number will not be on the French database. To get your chip numbers on the French database you will have to get the existing microchip numbers registered in France. This has to be done through your vet who will obtain the necessary documents, complete them for you and submit them. The actual transfer of the registration is not expensive, ours cost just over 11 euros for our dog and will also be needed if you need to obtain a French pets passport. Ours only took a couple of weeks but you will need proof of ownership of the animals and the original document for the UK microchip registration, proof of address etc.Perhaps the insurance will accept the UK microchip as it is, they are probably just looking for positive identification, but the change is not a lot of trouble and should give the peace of mind that if they are lost, you have a good chance of getting them back.AnneOoops, sorry Christine, went to check on dinner half way through writing the post. catsinfrance
Thanks for the info. They are now house cats which they are not too pleased about and I had not thought about the getting lost thing. But you are correct, with cats - where there is a will there is a way outside....
