Ragondin and disease

I was talking to the local piegeur yesterday (as he has started trapping Ragondin on my land again) and my dogs were running around. He commented to be very careful as they carry Leptospirosis. I told him I was careful and also that the dogs were vaccinated against Leptospirisis. He said that the vaccination was not effective against the strain the Ragondin tend to carry.

I have no idea if this is an "old wives tale" or just that no vaccine is 100% effective, but the local hunt seem pretty switched on about vaccines and disease as they certainly take a lot of care of their dogs (many are vaccinated against Piroplasmose and Lyme as well as the standard set).
