Loiseau
Can anybody tell me the relative heights in France of horses and ponies/poneys?I am probably wildly out of touch, but when I used to ride as a gal in the UK, anything up to 14.2 hands was a pony and anything above that a horse. (For all I know, these figures might have even gone metric by now!)I believe in France there is also a subtle difference between a "poney" and a "double poney"? Merci de toute clarificationAngela
Chrisb
Hi AngelaA poney is something up to around 142 cm (14hh) from then on it becaomes a Double Poney up to about 154/155cm (around 15.1hh), but it also depends on who you speak to.............I would have described my 154cm Lusitano as a horse, but at the vets they say he is a DP, and the chap down the road who breeds Selle Francais Poneys, says he is a horse, even though his SF stallion is about the same size, may be a tad smaller, and he, by definition is a poney!! Confusing, isn't it!!! I don't think you'll go far wrong if you go by tack sizes ie. Pony size = pony, Cob size = double poney and Full size = horse!Chris
