Long-haired Chihuahua?

Friends here lost their TWO mini-dachshunds on New Year's Day. They were out walking when the dogs ate "something" down by the river, that clearly turned out to have been poisoned bait of some type.  The wife wanted to report this to the Gendarmes, the husband didn't because he was afraid of making waves in a small community.  Personally, I'm with the wife!

Still, the whole family is heartbroken over the loss.  They do not want to get another Doxie, because it would remind them too much of the ones they lost.  However, they would be interested in a long-haired Chihuahua.  Does anyone know of one in rescue, or a breeder somewhere in the South?  We're in the Aude, but I imagine they would travel to get one that was the right puppy.

Thanks for any info.

Here are links of dogs at a refuge in the Aude that may be of interest, one even looks like a little chihuahua. It looks as if some are in a desperate situation. [:(]

What a nice thing to do in the memory of their two beloved lost dogs but to give such a needy dog a loving home.

The Shmoo appears to be VERY happy in his new home.  I think he knows that he lucked out with a pair of "poires" (soft-touches) for a new family.  The only thing he doesn't have is a big garden, but one can't have everything.  I do let him off-lead in the community gardens most days.  He loves to go swimming in the river (even when it's freezing out; silly boy) and is mostly good on his recall, although he has his moments when he just wants to chase little animals and doesn't want to get rehooked to his lead.
