cooperlola
Anybody know what the French word for "quidding" is? I need to phone the dobbins' dentist and want to make it clear that I need him to turn up relatively quickly. Thank you.
Christine Animal
What does it mean in English ?
cooperlola
It is the result of when horses are having problems chewing, and leave moist lumps of un-eaten hay around - a sure sign that they need to have their teeth done and the accepted word for this action in English equine circles. I thought somebody who knew about equine dentistry (we have one or two posters here, I think) would know.
Suze01
I was thinking about this the other day. What I need is a dictionary in english of all horse related terms. I then need a french-english horse term dictionary.Anyone know of an on-line one?
Catalpa
Cooperlola, as it sounds as if you need this information asap, you could ask over at TotalFrance because there's a very active horse group there (with a specific sub-section) and you should get your answer quickly. cooperlola
I got round the problem by just describing it on the phone. But if next time you see your chap then maybe you could ask him what the word is. When mine (who is great so I have no reason to change him) turns up, I'll ask him! Thanks for that, though. Cat
Coops, there doesn't seem to be a french word for quidding, but you might be interested in this site of equine medical english-french translations. http://www.lexiqueducheval.net/lexique_pathologie_equine_english.html
cooperlola
Cheers, Cat, very useful. I have a veterinary dictionary but it's not too comprehensive and the word certainly isn't in there. So I guess, as you say, it's just one of those things which has no direct translation.
