chocccie
My 13 year old cat had a sore and smelly ear recently ... it looked as though she'd had a fight (she's quite a 13 year old!!!) and an abcess had formed and then burst. So she went off to the vets ... apart from the fight wound it seemed she had mites (in the ears and between her toes apparently are the best place to see them ... the mites, called Oradour something or other, are specific to this area). She had an anti-biotic injection to fend of problems with the ear (which is now fine) and he switched her from Advantage to another treatment to cope with the mites. Now, a week later, she has watering eyes and nose and has a little snuffly cough. Her booster is due in November. My other cat (aged 7) has started sniffling and sneezing this morning. She had her booster a couple of months ago. So ... any idea why they have both got sniffles at the same time? Could it be just a normal cold and nothing to worry about? (with one of them being quite elderly I need to keep an eye on her, but can't afford to run off the the vets unless necessary). They've both been eating OK .. it has been pretty cold this way and my older cat can't wait to get out in the morning, although we try and keep her in until it warms up. They have the vaccine complet ... does anybody know if cat flu is covered by this? Thanks folks PS - I'm keeping them in this morning with a hot water bottle each and some warm porridge .. but don't tell anybody!!!
Chrissie
Are they suffering from Harvest Mites? Here I believe they are called "Aout-ers" although our cat always got them in September. They do go for the ears and inbetween the toes. Don't know if the snuffly noses are from the same cause or not - I didn't think cats got ordinary colds.Someone more knowledgeable will doubtless help.Chrissie (81)
chocccie
The cat who got the snuffles first is much recovered ... but the other one is not too happy .. she has sneezed up a lot of clear bile this evening and when she does it she yowls like something is hurting her. I've had cats all my life and I've never seen this before. If she's still suffering tomorrow I'll have to take her to the vets. It's awful seeing your pets suffer isn't it [:(]
