odile
the vet in France poorly applied the PracTic capsule - it ended up all over her coat. 2 days later started to smell badly from the mouth - a few days later the vet couln't examine her properly due to severe pain. Thought she had a badly infected tooth or tumour under her tongue. Today examination under anaesthetic = mouth full of terrible, infected ulcers, which the vet said must be due to strong chemicals. Put 2+2 = PracTic which she must have licked off. GGRRRRRRRRR. so Gatsby will be fine- but a lot of pain, a lot of sleepless nights, a big bill.Have any of you experienced similar problems. Novartis are investigating and will get back to us after discussing it with our vet in UK.
odile
Test results are back from the lab. Gatsby sufered a very acute attack of Erythema multiforme - which is an allergic reaction to a chemical/medication - in this case Novartis PracTic. I have phoned the French vet to inform her. she was very defensive and almost rude. Said that if it can be put on the skin, she can't see why it would be a problem in the mouth! Our UK vet was amazed that any vet could make such a statement. No need to say we will be changing French Vet and would advise all to give her a miss! Gatsby is much better and that is the main thing.Post edited to remove details under the no name & shame rule i the Code of Conduct
WJT
Odile, how awful! I am so happy that Gatsby is better but know too well how you must be feeling. Unfortunately I have had similar problems in the past with more than several UK vets and one with our French vet (the only one I have been to in France). I blame the last UK vet for the death of one of my dogs and I also discovered after a bad and frightening reaction of my little dog to Advantix that he had given me the wrong dosage all along to give him. I only discovered this because of our French vet.But having said that, the dog that died had previously contracted tick disease (piroplasmosis) that the French vet dismissed symptoms when I told her about them and the terrible vet in the UK ended up treating him when we returned to the UK because the symptoms were classic. This was before the fatal error he made with him in the end. I could go on about a few other disasters with UK vets. Therefore, I don't feel confident with any UK or French vet. [8-)]I hope Gatsby fully recovers her ordeal and you find a competent vet for her in the end.
odile
so sorry to hear about your heartache with vets. We have always had a brilliant vet here in UK - he is now retired but his successors seem also really on the ball. We have been recommended another vet in Pontarlier - and will discuss with her Gatsby allergy and the need for caution before any treatment. thanks for your good wishes Odile
