Piddy
Our children 9,7 & 3 have started in the local school here in the Gers. They had French lessons before leaving home for a year. Can someone who has been there and done that advise if it is essential for them to still have private french lessons, or will they pick it up at school quick enough to cope with the work?Piddy. Chrisb
Hello thereWe have been here a year now, our 2 boys were 9 and 11 when we arrived, and only had very rudimentary French. They both had private lessons twice a week last year which they found very helpful as they could ask their tutor to explain things that they hadn't fully understood in school. The youngest is continuing once a week this year, but the eldest, now at college, decided to stop going - with the option of being able to give her a shout if he feels he needs any extra help. I feel that the extra lessons have been well worth it.RegardsChris
Lollie
Hi,We moved here 18 months ago with children then aged 14, 10 and 9. They too had lessons in UK prior to our move and have continued with private lessons once a week here. Also there is an orgnaisation who works with schools helping non french speakers to learn the language, Here they visited my children for two hours each week for 9 months. Since then the schools have arranged additional help as they would with struggling french children, and the college has arranged for additional french rather than attending the english lessons. The organisation is CAREP, you can search this on their website.Lollie
Piddy
Thanks for the info about Carep. Do you have a website address? We tried Carep.fr and came up with something which I dont think was related to schools. Its all french to me! Piddy.
