Hi

Can anyone enlighten me on the entry proceedure in a French School?

We are planning to move to Bussiere Galant (87) early next year and I would like to get my head around the Childrens Education!

Emma is was 10 in May and Matt was 9 in July.

Thanks

jackie

The school phone number will be in the Yellow Pages, put école primaire for activité, and your village name and dept underneath:

Phone the school, say you want to register the children, and that's usually it.    I did go to the Mairie first, but they just said "Here's the school phone number"!   In my experience, and judging from other posts on here, it's one of the easiest things you can do in France!

School year is determined by birth year, so Sophie (1994) will be in CM2, the last year of école primaire, which will give her time to settle in before going on to the big scary world of collège next September.   Argh, can't see your post any more, but I think your son is 1995, if so he'll be in CM1.

School hours will probably be 9-12 and 2-5 Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri, with Wednesday off.  Some schools do 2 Sat mornings out of 3, some don't do Sat at all but have slightly shorter holidays.  Availability and price of school canteen will also vary between schools.  Almost certainly no packed lunches allowed!

School term dates are here:

but again, they're only a guideline, and your school may differ!
