Moving teenagers to France

Just to add to the information on teenagers moving into the French education system. My son moved from England last July after taking  his GCSE exams and went into première in sciences. He has finished this first year with a good mark for going into terminale.He has just had the result of the French literature and language bac which he had to take at the end of the year and he has passed this as well. I wouldn't for a second say it has been easy for him as he has worked extremely hard but I did just want to say that it is possible to do it as a lot of the information I read on the education forum before we moved was very negative about moving teenagers.

To put things into context he spoke very good French before we moved but still had a huge amount to do on his written work. He has integrated extremely well but did have a lot of good friends locally before we moved and he himself wanted to move to France.

Congratulations to your son Marie-Clare! I just found out this morning that my son has pasesd his CAP in electricity. When we moved over 4 yrs ago( he was 14 then).  he couldn,t speak a word of French.

He went to the local college but decided to..faire les betises..so we put him into a smaller private school. Anyway he,s now finished at lycee, passed his CAP, has started work(2 days ago) and in September will be starting his studies for his BEP in electricity whilst working at the same time.

Janey. My son passed his BEP electrotechnique last week after the two year course. He came first in every subject and the principal sent for him to congratulate him because he has had a very hard six months putting up with bullies and racist kids in his class who now,are ringing him up and wanting to be friends. He now goes in to another two years of BAC STI Electro and hopefully gaining that will then specialise in aviation. Tell your son to do the english and not the art as you gain more points and its a lot easier to do the exam if you are a native english speaker.

That,s excellant news Val, it must have been so hard for him to stay on top of things with the bullying. You must be very proud of him. My son has this idea that when he,s finished his BEP he wants to work on the overhead power cables not too keen on that but he,s got plenty of time to change his mind.
