The School Thing!!!

Hello,

We are moving to France (Near Argentan) in the near future to set up a business and would really appreciate some help re schools. We have read various posts on this forum both good and bad and feel that given our natural optimsim that our children (2,3,11,13) will be able to cope with lots of parental support (both my wife and I speak French to a good standard).

We would like them to go to a Catholic school as they do in the UK but am having trouble finding any. Can anyone help? I get the impression that it would be a good idea to find a school that already has some UK kids in it as they will be used to catering for their needs, is this naive?

Also, has anyone actually had children of similar ages to ours pass through the system? We would really appreciate hearing your experiences.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Ecole prive , are the catholic schools. look in the area you want in either pages jaunes or the phone book.

I do not know where your impression of finding one with English kids already there came from, ours went to the local maternale and primare, they were and and one still is the only English in the school.........Eldest now at college, with about 3 other English in the school. I feel they have done really well.

Opas,

Thanks for the reply. The comment about english kids in a school came from reading some of the posts. Most of the positive ones seemed to come from those that had other english kids there as well.

How old were your's when you moved to France? My wife is concerned that our eldest daughter (13 y/o) will struggle being close to exam age. She is a very bright girl who is currently doing v. well in school. I guess like all parents we are worried that she will struggle to pick things up quick enough ie: converational french is ok but being able to write an essay is another matter.

Look forward to hearing how you got on.
